How often do you say you're sorry? It is important to apologize when we have wronged someone, but sometimes, we can over-apologize. That places others’ needs ahead of your own. If we continuously sacrifice our needs for the desires of others, we do ourselves a huge disservice. Here are a few things for which you definitely should not apologize.

1.) Taking Care of Yourself

Taking care of yourself is important. If you do not take care of yourself, you cannot help others. Put on your own oxygen mask before assisting other, and feel no guilt!

2.) Having ADHD

You did not choose to have ADHD; it’s not your fault. Don’t apologize for it; embrace it.

3.) Having Fun

Yes, there are inappropriate times to have fun (while attending a funeral service, for example), but everyone needs to have fun. In fact, if I don’t do something fun all day, I consider that a bad day. Have fun every day, and don’t feel bad about it. You need fun.

4.) Having a Sense of Humor

Laughter is important. It has been proven to make people feel better. The whole “laughter is the best medicine is not far from the truth. When used at the right time, humor can be the best thing for the situation.

5.) Your Feelings

You have a right to your feelings. Do not apologize for feeling how you feel. Yes, you need to prevent your emotions from controlling you, but you cannot help how you feel. If you are sad, it is okay to be sad. If you are happy, it is okay to feel happy.

6.) Asking for Help

If you need help, seek help. You do not have to do everything by yourself. In fact, sometimes, by asking for help from others, you are helping them. It felt good to help someone. When you allow someone to help you, they will feel good.

7.) Standing up for Yourself

If someone wrongs you, it is not wrong to let them know that is not okay. Nobody has the right to harm you. Letting people walk all over you is not being polite; it’s opening the door for that to happen again.

8.) You

You have a right to exist. You are not an accident. You are important. You don’t merely get in someone’s way. You bring value to the world. You are awesome. Do not apologize for being the magnificent human being you are.
